About this Photograph

DescriptionArtefacts in the process of being packed to be temporarily removed from Scott's Discovery hut at Hut Point. During the 2013-14 season all portable artefacts except the mutton and a small number of boxes were removed from Discovery Hut by the conservators to provide access to the interior of the hut for the carpenters to carry out their summer work programme. The documentation, tagging, packing and transport of the collection took approximately one week. In temperatures down to -27°C, over 400 artefacts were given new identification tags, documented, packed and removed to temporary storage in preparation for the Winter 2014 conservation programme. Whilst most were taken by vehicle to the AHT containers at Scott Base, some of the boxes, artefacts not requiring treatment or those that were too fragile to move off site were retained in a container at the Hut Point site.PhotographerLizzie MeekMap^[1]Location linkHut Point
