Young Inspiring Explorers' Summit

Antarctic Heritage Trust, in partnership with the William Pike Challenge, hosted the first ever Young Inspiring Explorers’ Summit in Christchurch, New Zealand’s gateway to Antarctica, over the weekend of 21-22 September 2019.

The next generation of Shackletons, Hillarys and Scotts had a taste of Antarctica, with 20 Year 7-9 students from around the country spending the weekend with the Trust and Kiwi explorer William Pike. The weekend encouraged and empowered these young people to meet the challenges of life head-on by connecting them to the inspiring feats of early Antarctic exploration. The young explorers stepped outside their comfort zones, camped out overnight, met huskies and penguins, and learned about the science happening in Antarctica that is crucial to today’s world.

The students are now sharing their experiences through presentations at their schools and community groups.
