Climate Insights from Antarctica: Exclusive Interview with George Denton

Antarctic Heritage Trust is proud to release an exclusive interview with eminent climate scientist, George Denton. During his long career, George has studied the history of glaciers all over the world, including in the Antarctic and Southern Alps of New Zealand. He’s visited Antarctica 30 times, and two Antarctic landmarks, the Denton Glacier and Denton Hills, have been named in George’s honour. George’s research has inspired several generations of students, and he continues to work with students today, as a Professor at the School of Earth and Climate Sciences and Climate Change Institute at the University of Maine. The Trust’s Emeritus Executive Director, Nigel Watson, had the pleasure of engaging George Denton in a conversation about the remarkable scientific legacy the early polar explorers such as Scott and Shackleton and their peers left behind. He also tells us how their pioneering climate data continues to inform climate science to this day. George also talks about the captivating encounters and fascinating connections he has had with extraordinary individuals linked to the Antarctic continent.
